The Challenge
MyPulse launched with an ambitious mission: building equity through fitness and aquatic programmes designed for underserved communities. But here's the challenge purpose-driven organisations face — how do you deliver a professional, scalable member experience when the entire operation runs on spreadsheets and manual processes? Membership records lived in spreadsheets. Check-ins were manual. Payments ran through standalone EFTPOS machines with no connection to member data. Cancellations were difficult to process, renewals required manual intervention every cycle, and nothing connected the swim school, fitness programmes and aquatic facilities into a coherent member experience.

Positioning a Social Enterprise for Digital Impact
Before a single pixel was designed, we established the strategic foundation. Working with MyPulse, we defined brand positioning centred on equity, inclusion and community impact — articulating what makes a purpose-built fitness and aquatic centre fundamentally different from a council aquatic centre or a commercial gym. Key outcomes: audience segmentation across MyPulse's three core communities - kids and swim school families, female fitness and aquatic members, and the general audience; positioning language anchored in "fitness for good" and "where fitness meets purpose"; and a content and experience strategy that informed every design and platform decision that followed. This wasn't a brief. It was a blueprint, and every solution below traces back to the clarity established here.

A Visual Identity Built on Purpose
We began where every lasting digital experience starts: with the brand. The MyPulse logo uses deliberate curved forms representing three core elements — waves, water and movement — connecting the aquatic facility to the broader fitness mission. We then developed a strategic multi-colour system designed to speak to distinct audiences: light green for kids, youth and the swim school programme; light pink for female swimmers and fitness enthusiasts, reflecting a facility purpose-built to serve women in fitness and aquatics; and blue as the universal palette for the general audience. This isn't arbitrary colour selection — each colour maps to specific programme categories and audience segments, so MyPulse communicates "fitness for good" across every touchpoint with visual clarity. Beyond the core identity we produced social media templates, app interface styling, retouched imagery, t-shirt and signage mock-ups, and a brand book covering logo usage, colour, typography, imagery direction and application guidelines.

Designing for Multiple Audiences, One Seamless Experience
We designed a human-centric website experience that guides each audience to the right programmes, pricing and enrolment pathways without complexity. The UX architecture balances MyPulse's breadth of offerings — swim school, fitness, boxing, aquatic facilities — with clear navigation and purposeful content hierarchy, so members can find and act on what matters to them within moments. App interface styling extends the brand into the mobile platform, with custom cover designs, button treatments and visual elements that maintain MyPulse's identity inside the MindBody application.

Content Operations at Programme Speed
A fitness and aquatic centre's programme offering changes constantly — new class schedules, seasonal swim school terms, updated pricing, intake forms for different programmes. MyPulse's operations team needed to manage all of it without developer dependency. Built on Sanity headless CMS, we created a content architecture where the team can create and publish programmes for different audience segments within minutes, update pricing and membership structures as offerings evolve, manage facility opening and closing times and session schedules directly, embed intake forms and enrolment pathways into programme pages, and extend a structured content model as new programmes launch. This is content architecture designed for operational reality, not developer convenience. When a new swim school term opens or pricing shifts mid-season, the team publishes in minutes rather than waiting for a development cycle.

The Operational Engine Behind the Experience
The heart of the transformation was replacing spreadsheets and manual processes with a holistic fitness and aquatic management platform. We implemented MindBody as the operational backbone: membership management with subscriptions, contracts, renewals and cancellations handled digitally; swim school enrolment with structured programme scheduling replacing manual coordination; class scheduling and bookings across fitness, boxing and aquatic programmes with real-time availability; integrated digital payments replacing standalone EFTPOS transactions; and automated member check-ins. We integrated MindBody directly into the headless website through widgets, so pricing tables, class schedules and booking flows appear natively within the Sanity-powered site — members move from content discovery to action without ever leaving the brand experience. The platform also powers a dedicated mobile app, extending bookings, schedule management and membership access from desktop to pocket.
